U.S. Lays Out Case Against Arizona Law
Jul 23rd
So it has begun, the case of the US government versus the evil state of Arizona. Read the article here.
No matter what side of the fence you are on, the ironic things is the Arizona law is the same as the federal law. The only difference is that it empowers local law enforcement to do the enforcing rather than federal law enforcement officials. They even have the stipulation that the person must have done something else first. Basically they have to have a reason to stop the individual in the first place.
Bottom line is if the US Government had been doing their job and enforce the law they created, then we would not be in this place. So really they are not protesting because Arizona is wrong, it is because someone will now be serious about enforcement.
I live in Arizona, and yes illegal immigrants get caught every day crossing our border, but it is like if they get past the border patrol they are home free. They can even protest in our streets.
Well, it could be about racial profiling. That I can agree it would be hard to enforce this law without any racial profiling, but then how could the federal law be enforced? Should we just shut down immigration and open the borders?
So really everyone is upset because Arizona is doing something that everyone else chooses to ignore. Has everyone forgotten that they are called Illegal Immigrants. Make them legal and I am all good, until then do not chastise Arizona for doing what is already law.
Obama Casts Republicans as Party of the Rich
Jul 18th
Alright it has been awhile. I blogged about this subject some 3 or 4 years ago. Even then, as today, the Democrats paint themselves as the party of the people. They have always painted themselves as the poor man’s politician, and the republicans as the party of the rich.
On the web today, I saw this story, “Obama Casts Republicans as Party of the Rich”. The opening paragraph said it all:
“President Barack Obama stepped up criticism of Republicans on Saturday for blocking jobless aid, hammering home a Democratic election year attack line that casts the opposition as the party of the rich.”
So I did some research just like I did some 3 years ago and here is what I found.
- Of the top 5 richest members of congress, 4 of them are Democrats.
- Of the top 10 richest members of congress, 8 of them are Democrats.
- Of the top 25 richest members of congress, 14 of them are Democrats.
- Of the top 50 richest members of congress, 28 of them are Democrats.
- Of the top 50 richest members of congress, the 28 Democrats average $29.7 Million Dollars net worth, the 22 Republicans average $21.1 Million Dollars of net worth. Democrats on average have a net worth 40% more than their Republican counterparts.
- Of the top 50 richest members of congress, the net worth of the Democrats is $831.6 Million Dollars, the Republicans $464.8 Million Dollars. The total net worth of the Democrats is 79% more than the Republicans.
- Of the top 50 richest members of congress, the Democrats have been in office on average for 12 years, the Republican counterpart 10 years.
Now, do not get me wrong, I am not saying the Republican party has paupers for congressmen. An average of $21.1 Million Dollars of net worth is nothing to laugh at. They are both rich, but it is obvious who is richer.
